  • Queensland's ambitious REZ Roadmap aims for 80% renewables by 2035, connecting 22 GW of new capacity across 12 locations. A green future is on the horizon!

Queensland has released a roadmap to connect 22 GW of new renewable energy capacity to its grid by 2035, aiming for an 80% renewables share. The REZ Roadmap will facilitate the construction of renewable energy plants as the state plans to phase out coal. The plan identifies 12 locations across Southern, Central, and Far North Queensland for the roll-out of wind, solar, and energy storage capacity connected to the Queensland SuperGrid.

The development of the proposed zones will include planning for infrastructure facilities, bridges, roads, and telecommunications. The government will conduct a REZ Readiness Assessment, starting in Central Queensland, to engage with communities and ensure the roll-out of key infrastructure and supply chains.

How will Queensland's REZ Roadmap facilitate the transition to 80% renewables by 2035?

  • The REZ Roadmap will provide a clear framework for the development of 22 GW of new renewable energy capacity in Queensland by 2035.
  • By identifying 12 specific locations across the state for the roll-out of wind, solar, and energy storage capacity, the roadmap will streamline the development process and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • The plan includes provisions for the development of infrastructure facilities, bridges, roads, and telecommunications in the identified renewable energy zones, facilitating the construction and operation of renewable energy plants.
  • The government's REZ Readiness Assessment will engage with communities in Central Queensland and other regions to ensure that key infrastructure and supply chains are in place to support the transition to 80% renewables by 2035.
  • By phasing out coal and transitioning to renewable energy sources, Queensland will reduce its carbon emissions and contribute to the fight against climate change.
