UK-based Mercia Power Response and RheEnergise have announced a partnership to explore the potential deployment of long-duration hydro-energy storage technology. The aim is to get 100MW of High-Density Hydro (HD Hydro) in commercial operation by 2030. The two companies will identify suitable sites for additional HD Hydro projects, taking advantage of Mercia PR's existing grid connections and industry partners' market expertise. RheEnergise's HD Hydro storage system is low-cost, energy efficient and fast to develop and construct, using an environmentally benign fluid 2½ times denser than water. This opens up massive opportunities in the UK and around the world, according to the companies. With its deep knowledge of the UK energy system, Mercia PR will be beneficial to the RheEnergise team in providing medium and long duration energy storage, critical for the transition to net zero.
