Greece: PPC Wins 98MW Battery Storage Support

PPC Renewables, the renewables arm of Greece's power utility PPC SA, has secured an investment grant and operating aid for 98 MW of battery energy storage projects. This comes after the company took part in a tender for the installation and operation of the energy storage facilities held by the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water. The two projects, with capacities of 50 MW/100 MWh and 48 MW/96 MWh, will be installed in the region of Western Macedonia, where PPC Renewables is currently building several solar parks. The battery facilities are expected to be built in 2021 and brought into operation in 2025. At the start of August, PPC and its German joint venture partner German energy group RWE AG took the final investment decisions on 280 MW of solar projects in the same region, with PPC Renewables buying the entire output of the three plants under a 15-year power purchase agreement.
