Equinix inks PPAs to back 225 MW of new solar in Spain

  • US data centre company Equinix Inc (NASDAQ: EQIX) stated that it has actually signed five power purchase agreements (PPAs) to obtain 225 MW of solar energy and support new construct in Spain.

The 5 new projects will certainly be situated in different areas of Spain that boast higher solar radiation that parts of the country, the business's local unit stated.

Spanish vertically incorporated renewables team Ignis will handle the projects. Equinix stated that it was supported by Schneider Electric in project choice and contract arrangements.

The solar farms are expected to start operations in 2025. Equinix anticipates them to generate ample power to match consumption of its International Business Exchange (IBX) data centres in Madrid, Barcelona and also Seville.

With the latest off-take, Equinix will have 595 MW under contracts as it functions to transition from renewable energy certificates to PPAs where ever possible, the company added.
