Alight Powers Up Finland: 100MW+ Solar Park

Swedish developer Alight has announced plans to build a ground-mounted solar park in Eurajoki, Satakunta municipality, Finland. The project, covering 123 hectares (175 football fields), will have an installed capacity of more than 100MW, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 20,000 homes, making it one of the largest solar parks in Finland. Construction is set to begin in fourth quarter 2024 and will be commissioned in first quarter 2026. According to Alight, the development and construction of the park will bring jobs to the community and help Finland reach its targets of becoming carbon neutral by 2035 and the world’s first fossil fuel-free society. Alight Chief Operations Officer Warren Campbell expressed the company's excitement to be expanding to the Finnish market.

Will Alight's Solar Park Advance Finland's Carbon Neutrality?

  • The solar park will create jobs in the local community, providing an economic benefit to the area.
  • The park will generate enough electricity to power more than 20,000 homes, reducing the amount of energy that must be purchased from other sources, including fossil fuels.
  • The project is in line with Finland's goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2035, and it will help reduce the country's emissions and contribute to the global effort to reduce climate change.
  • Alight is working to ensure that the project meets all necessary environmental standards so it can become a model for future renewable energy projects in the region.
  • The company is also engaging with local stakeholders and government agencies to ensure that the project meets all of their requirements.
