18MW Solar Farm Approved in UK

South Gloucestershire Council has approved the 18.75MW Codrington Solar Farm that will produce enough power to meet the energy needs of up to 4,400 homes. The project will deliver low carbon, home-grown energy with a package of landscape, ecological and biodiversity benefits, including barn owl boxes, bird nesting boxes, beehives, log piles, restoration of traditional field boundaries, and additional hedgerow and tree planting. Construction is expected to begin early 2025.

What Benefits Does the 18.75MW Codrington Solar Farm Offer?

  • The 18.75MW Codrington Solar Farm will reduce South Gloucestershire Council’s reliance on imported energy sources, enabling them to reduce their carbon footprint.
  • The project will provide financial benefits to the local economy, including the creation of jobs during construction and operational phases.
  • The project will provide educational opportunities to local schools and communities.
  • The project will also offer recreational opportunities, with enhanced paths and access to the countryside.
  • As the farm is located in a rural setting, the project will be designed to minimise the impact on local wildlife and habitats.
  • The project will feature a battery storage facility that will be used to store energy produced during peak times to meet demands during off-peak times.
  • The project will also include a visitor centre with interactive displays, providing education and information about renewable energy.
