Victoria's SEC Signs 10-Year Offtake for 102-MW Glenrowan Battery
- Victoria's SEC finalized a 10-year offtake for a planned 102-MW, four-hour battery at the Glenrowan Solar Farm.
- The deal replaces SEC's solar-only contract for the operating 102-MW solar farm.
- The battery will move to construction after financial close, which has not been announced.
Victoria's State Electricity Commission (SEC) has finalized a 10-year offtake agreement for a planned 102-MW, four-hour battery at the Glenrowan Solar Farm in the state's north-east, the state-owned company said on Nov. 2.
The contract covers both the operating 102-MW solar farm and the new battery. It replaces the solar-only offtake SEC already held. Both assets belong to Pacific Partnerships, part of CIMIC Group. The battery will move to construction after financial close, SEC said in a statement.
Victoria already approved the project, named the Chivers Road BESS in planning papers, with a ministerial permit issued on May 28, 2026. It sits inside the solar farm's boundary, in the north-west corner.
The battery deal in numbers
- 408 MWh of storage implied by 102 MW over four hours (list.solar calculation).
- 10 years is the term of the new contract for the solar farm and battery together.
- 130 MWdc / 102 MWac is the solar farm's capacity on 245 hectares, according to Pacific Partnerships.
- 3.9% is the battery's share of Victoria's legislated 2.6-GW storage target for 2030 (list.solar calculation).
- 773 MW of storage was commissioned in Victoria at June 30, 2025, with 2,326 MW more under construction or commissioning, state data show.
Victoria's target rises to at least 6.3 GW of storage by 2035. Nationally, nine large batteries with 2.3 GW / 7.1 GWh were switched on in the first half of 2026, more than in all of 2025, the Clean Energy Council reported. list.solar covered the figures in its review of Australia's H1 2026 build-out.
SEC supplies renewable power to more than 4,400 sites, about 5% of the state's electricity demand. Glenrowan was the first project backed by Victoria's second renewable energy auction, VRET2, to start generating, Pacific Partnerships said.
"This agreement will allow us to make better use of the solar energy generated during the day and strengthen our ability to supply customers during periods of high demand," SEC Chief Executive Chris Miller said.
Financial close has not been announced, and SEC gave no date for the battery to start operating.
