  • Our Next Energy (ONE) has launched Aries Grid, a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) utility-scale battery system that can provide long-duration energy storage. This renewable energy storage solution is manufactured in the US and aims to decarbonize mobility and the grid.

What happened?

Michigan-headquartered Our Next Energy (ONE) has recently launched Aries Grid, a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) utility-scale battery system that can provide long-duration energy storage. This renewable energy storage solution is manufactured in the US and is supported by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Aries Grid is offered in 2, 3, and 6 MWh modular units that allow for system customization and discharge times ranging from 4 to 12 hours. This allows for the development of renewable microgrids that can provide 24×7 firm capacity baseloads to power factories, data centers and communities.

Why does it matter?

The launch of Aries Grid is a milestone achievement in efforts to scale-up investments in renewable energy infrastructure and grid reliability. With the support of the IRA, Aries Grid can be utilized with renewable energy capabilities to provide baseload generation, a previously cost-prohibitive exercise in many markets. The LFP cathode chemistry used in the energy storage system is more durable and has double the lifetime energy throughput of the nickel, cobalt and manganese (NCM) chemistries which make up most commercially available stationary energy storage systems in the US.

What's next?

The energy landscape in the US is shifting fast in favour of renewable energy. According to the US Energy Information Administration, in 2022, more than 60% of new capacity added to the country’s utility grid was based on renewable energy. This shift is being driven by the increasing cost-effectiveness of renewable energy sources and the growing demand for clean energy. The launch of Aries Grid is just one part of this larger shift and is likely to be followed by further innovation and investment in the renewable energy sector in the US and around the world.
