The Uzbek government will rely on support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for new public-private partnership (PPP) tenders that will award up to 900 MW of solar projects.

The IFC said the Central Asian nation will launch in the upcoming months PPP tenders for two projects up to 200 MW each, one of 500 MW.

The solar tenders are to attract close to a billion dollars (EUR 900m) of private investment, the financial institution's Vice President, Latin American and the Caribbean and Europe and Central Asia, Georgina Baker, said.

Uzbekistan held its first PPP tender for renewables earlier this year. In it Masdar Clean Energy of the UAE won a contract to build a 100-MW solar park and sell its power at USD 0.02679 per kWh.

Uzbekistan aims to have 5 GW of solar power in the grid by 2030.
