Facebook purchases 61.6MW of solar power for its operations in Virginia
- Facebook has signed a PPA with Apex Clean Energy, Virginia-based renewable energy developer, for 61.6 megawatts of Altavista Solar. The solar farm, scheduled to start operations next year, will be the first solar facility in Campbell County.
This is the second large contract between FB and Apex in 2019. The first one was concluded in summer for 200-megawatt Texas-based Aviator Wind East, scheduled to become operational next year. The facility is being developed within the framework of the biggest US wind project created on one site in one stage.
Altavista facility with 80 megawatts of capacity is going to become the biggest solar development by Apex and its first East Coast based green energy project. The venture is meant to strengthen FB’s operations in the state and bring it closer to its goal for the following year. The latter constitutes of GHG reduction by three fourths and power supply from totally renewable sources.
The project in Campbell County is predicted to create about 200 jobs during the construction stage and provide the local government with more than $1.8m tax revenues over the venture’s 35-year-long existence.
