Dubai-based renewables developer AMEA Power has secured a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with South African utility Eskom for a 120-MW solar park project in the North West province. The project, known as the Doornhoek photovoltaic (PV) project, was developed by a consortium majority-held by AMEA Power and is expected to generate 325 GWh of electricity annually to supply about 97,000 homes.
The total investment needed for the project is estimated to be around USD 120 million, with debt financing provided by Standard Bank South Africa and equity funding from Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). The PV project, located near Klerksdorp, is part of South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) and will support the country's goal of increasing renewable energy's share in the national energy mix to 22% by 2030.
