VP Naidu Inaugurates Amp Energy's 2.4 MW Solar Plant in Puducherry

  • Amp Energy India has appointed a 2.4 MW solar energy plant at Pondicherry University in the Union Territory of Puducherry.

The plant was inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on 13th September, 2021, in the visibility of the Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Lt Governor of Puducherry & Chief Rector of Pondicherry University; N Rangasamy, Chief Minister of Puducherry; and Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University.

The 2.4 MW solar project is just one of the biggest solar power plants for a central university in India and is topped 15 buildings, 2 car parks and 2 land parcels in the university school. The plant is instrumental is providing solar energy to fulfill concerning 40% need of the university's energy requirements.

By adopting solar power, Pondicherry University will gain from lowered energy costs and will certainly contribute to minimizing discharges of approx. 2,900 lots of CO2 annually.

This project has been created under the 97.5 MW roof system by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Pondicherry University and Amp Energy India have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) under this scheme for the procurement of solar power for 25 years.

This project is one of the many solar projects established by Amp Energy India for educational institutions in India. Amp India has actually appointed solar projects for Institution of Planning and Design, National Legislation University, Bhopal and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior to name a few.

Amp Energy India with its diversified portfolio of projects has developed huge roof projects consisting of some site solar roof projects for L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (7.8 MW), Tata Hitachi Construction Equipment (10.5 MW) and the biggest solar roof for an industrial client for Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (18.5 MW), said the firm.
