  • Thailand opened registration on Oct. 27 for a THB 50,000 rooftop solar grant per home, capped at 1 million households.
  • Full uptake means THB 50 billion in grants and 5–10 GW of panels, against 103 MW under the earlier household scheme.
  • Sign-up runs through MEA and PEA until Jan. 31, 2027; systems must be grid-connected by Sept. 30, 2027.
Thailand Opens THB 50,000 Rooftop Solar Grants for 1 Million Homes

Thailand opened registration on Oct. 27 for a rooftop solar grant of THB 50,000 ($1,480) per home, capped at 1 million households, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) said. If every slot is used, the grants total THB 50 billion ($1.48 billion), a list.solar calculation at the Bank of Thailand's Oct. 27 reference rate.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is also interior minister, opened the People's Solar program at Government House the same day. PEA and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) run it under a cabinet resolution. Households sign up on the two utilities' websites until Jan. 31, 2027.

The grant covers equipment and installation for residential solar systems of 5 kWp to 10 kWp per meter. It can fund a new array or an addition to an existing one, which must include at least panels and an inverter. Applicants must be Thai citizens on the residential tariff, named on the meter, and can claim once.

Work must be done by MEA, PEA or a vendor registered with them. Tax invoices must be dated from Oct. 27 onward. A household that takes the grant cannot also claim the THB 200,000 income-tax exemption for home solar under Royal Decree No. 805.

Thailand's People's Solar grant in numbers

  • THB 50,000 ($1,480) per household toward equipment and installation, claimable once per person.
  • 1,000,000 households at most, or fewer if the approved budget runs out first.
  • THB 50 billion ($1.48 billion) in grants if every slot is taken (list.solar calculation).
  • 5–10 GW of new capacity if 1 million homes install the allowed 5–10 kWp each (list.solar calculation).
  • 18,774 homes with 102,698 kWp had joined Thailand's earlier rooftop solar scheme for households by April 1, 2026, the Energy Policy and Planning Office said.

That earlier scheme paid only for surplus power. In April, the National Energy Policy Council set the buy-back price for household exports at THB 2.20 ($0.065) per kWh. Exports are capped at 5 kW per meter.

Government Savings Bank, Government Housing Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives will lend for the rest, each on its own terms. Registration does not guarantee the money, MEA said on its sign-up portal.

MEA serves Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan; PEA covers the rest of the country. Owners must apply for grid connection by Aug. 31, 2027, and be connected by Sept. 30, 2027, to receive the grant.
