Colbun's Celda Solar project in northern Chile is set to become the largest solar investment in the Arica y Parinacota region, harnessing the area's favorable conditions for solar energy and contributing to renewable energy goals.

Colbun and Polpaico Soluciones are constructing the largest self-consumption solar plant in Chile, equipped with 15,000 bifacial solar modules and trackers. Chilean utility Colbun SA and also Japanese diversified group Sumitomo Corp (TYO:8053) revealed on Monday that they have developed a partnership to jointly study the expediency of green hydrogen-to-ammonia projects in Chile.

Chilean energy Colbun SA on Monday inaugurated its 230-MW Diego de Almagro Sur solar farm with an 8-MW battery power storage space system (BESS) in Chile's Atacama area, as well as stated that it going to add the storage space component to most of its renewable resource projects in the future.

Chilean utility Colbun SA has renegotiated the terms of a decade-plus old power purchase agreement (PPA) with state-owned copper miner Codelco to gradually replace the contracted supply of coal-based electricity with 100% renewables.
