SunPower Origin Launches in Europe With 505 W, 40-Year Warranty
- TCL SunPower Global opened orders across Europe for SunPower Origin, a back-contact panel rated at up to 505 W and 24.7% efficiency.
- One 40-year warranty covers product, power and service; JinkoSolar's Tiger Neo 3.0 TOPCon datasheet gives 12 years on product and 30 on power.
- First deliveries to SunPower Partner installers are expected before the end of 2026; prices have not been published.
TCL SunPower Global opened European orders on Oct. 19 for SunPower Origin, a back-contact panel rated at up to 505 W with a 40-year warranty.
The seller belongs to China's TCL Group, whose units bought Maxeon Solar Technologies' non-U.S. business in March 2025, a Maxeon filing shows. Origin uses the eighth generation of the SunPower back-contact cell, with all electrical contacts on the rear. The home version packs 54 cells into an all-black 1,800 × 1,134 mm frame and reaches 24.7% efficiency. A 66-cell bifacial commercial version delivers up to 615 W.
TCL SunPower says it patterns the cells with lithography rather than lasers to cut micro-cracks. A shaded cell stays below 100°C, and TÜV Rheinland rated the panel Class A+ for shading resistance, the company said.
Origin does not lead on efficiency. JinkoSolar lists its Tiger Neo 5.0 back-contact home module at 25.52%. Origin competes on the warranty instead. A single contract covers product, power and service for 40 years. Output is guaranteed at 99.0% in year one, falling by no more than 0.25% a year. The full term needs online registration; otherwise 30 years apply.
The panel in numbers
- 485–505 W and 23.8–24.7% efficiency across five home power classes; the commercial panel spans 595–615 W and up to 24.8%.
- 0.6 percentage point above the 24.1% of Maxeon 7 in 2024, and 0.8 point below the Tiger Neo 5.0 (list.solar calculation).
- 40 years of product cover, 28 years more than the 12 years in JinkoSolar's Tiger Neo 3.0 datasheet (list.solar calculation).
- 89.3% of rated power guaranteed in year 40, according to TCL SunPower, against 88.85% at year 30 for the Tiger Neo 3.0.
- About 19 MWh from one 505-W panel over 40 years at the warranted minimum output, assuming 1,000 kWh per kW a year (list.solar calculation).
The 40-year term is not new for the brand. Maxeon offered it on Maxeon 7 as well. The home segment is shrinking. Rooftop systems on houses made up 14% of new EU solar capacity in 2025, down from 28% in 2023, SolarPower Europe data show.
"Because we know how these cells age, we can put a 40-year warranty on the panel," TCL SunPower Global General Manager Steven Zhang said.
SunPower Partner installers can order Origin now, with first deliveries expected before the end of 2026. Prices have not been published, and the 40-year warranty is not offered in every country.
