US solar cell manufacturer Suniva Inc announced plans to expand and restart its factory in Norcross, Georgia with a first phase of expansion creating up to 240 full-time jobs and establishing a manufacturing capacity of 1 GW. The company is also pursuing a second phase of expansion which would boost annual manufacturing capacity up to 2.5 GW. Suniva secured a USD 110 million financing commitment from Orion Infrastructure Capital and signed a multi-year agreement for the supply of wafers. This marks the first step in rebuilding solar cell manufacturing in the US, following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act which has spurred numerous solar manufacturing announcements.
