Sungrow Supplies 35 MWh Storage for Sierra Leone RESPITE

Chinese inverter and energy storage provider Sungrow has delivered 35 MWh of battery storage for the World Bank-backed RESPITE solar-plus-storage project in Sierra Leone, the company said. The system uses eight PowerTitan Series battery units supplied for the newly commissioned solar facilities.
RESPITE, launched in 2023 across Chad, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo, aims to boost electricity access during emergencies. Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio commissioned solar parks in June—a 30-MW plant in Newton and a 10-MW site in Lungi—both paired with batteries. Sungrow said capacity is now 28 MWh at the current configuration, with Newton 2 adding 7 MWh upon grid connection. World Bank estimates project national electricity access rising from 16% to 36% once operational.
