- JK Lakshmi Cement to invest INR 205 million for a 26% stake in STLC RE 1, powering a Sirohi solar-storage project—and aims to recoup costs in under two years.
JK Lakshmi Cement will invest up to INR 205 million (about $2.2 million) to buy at least a 26% stake in STLC RE 1 Ltd in an all-cash deal. The company said the transaction is expected to be finalised by year-end and is not subject to governmental or regulatory approvals.
The investment will fund a 29-MWac/49-MWdc solar PV project in Sirohi, Rajasthan, paired with a 28-MWh battery energy storage system. The solar-storage complex will supply power to JK Lakshmi Cement’s Sirohi plant, supporting its push to increase renewable electricity use and cut factory energy costs. The company expects to recover its investment in under two years.
What will JK Lakshmi Cement’s INR 205M solar-storage investment deliver in Rajasthan?
- A renewable energy package in Rajasthan that combines a 29-MWac / 49-MWdc solar PV plant with 28 MWh of battery storage, creating a solar-plus-storage supply designed to smooth out power variability.
- Dedicated electricity for JK Lakshmi Cement’s Sirohi manufacturing site, aimed at reducing reliance on purchased grid power and lowering exposure to fuel and tariff fluctuations.
- Improved reliability of renewable power for plant operations, enabling electricity delivery that can be shifted beyond daytime generation through battery support.
- Potential reductions in the cement plant’s carbon footprint and associated sustainability reporting metrics by increasing the share of electricity sourced from renewables.
- Faster deployment of on-site clean energy infrastructure in Sirohi, helping strengthen local energy resilience and supporting the region’s broader shift toward renewables.
- Value creation through a short payback outlook (the company expects to recoup the investment in less than two years), which can translate into lower long-term operating energy costs.
- A platform for JK Lakshmi Cement to scale renewables procurement and storage know-how in Rajasthan, supporting further solar and storage projects at industrial sites.
- Local economic and ecosystem benefits from construction and commissioning activities (and ongoing O&M) tied to the Sirohi solar-storage asset.
