Infinigen Expands Solar Project with 15-MW BESS in Puerto Rico

Infinigen Renewables, a renewables operator based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is set to add a 15-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) to its existing 32-MW solar project in the municipality of Yabucoa. The company has partnered with US battery storage solutions provider FlexGen Systems Inc to bring the project online, using FlexGen's HybridOS power management system platform and digital controls to meet the grid specifications of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).

The YFN Yabucoa Solar Project, which has a power purchase and operating agreement (PPOA) with PREPA since 2022, is expected to reach commercial operation date in September 2025. Infinigen's CEO, Leslie Hufstetler, stated that this project expands their current fleet in Puerto Rico to over 100 MW and aligns with their strategic objective of becoming a leading developer and operator of solar and storage capacity in the region. Infinigen is owned by investment firm ArcLight Capital Partners.
