- Helexia secures EUR 20M to fund 73 distributed solar projects in Europe—backed by La Banque Postale and Bpifrance—helping businesses cut grid reliance, costs, and carbon emissions.
Helexia, the French on-site solar specialist and unit of Voltalia SA, has reached financial close on a EUR 20 million tranche to back 73 photovoltaic projects across France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. The funding supports distributed solar deployments in multiple European markets.
The financing is provided by La Banque Postale and Bpifrance and is part of a wider pan-European programme launched in 2023, totaling more than EUR 200 million in investments. Helexia said the initiative is designed to help businesses cut reliance on grid power, improve energy cost predictability and reduce carbon emissions, under a single financing framework.
What does Helexia’s EUR 20m financing enable for distributed solar projects in Europe?
- Enables the development and deployment of 73 distributed photovoltaic projects across France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal under a single, bank-financed framework
- Expands access to on-site solar capacity for commercial and industrial customers by funding projects at the local level rather than utility-scale generation
- Strengthens business ability to hedge against electricity price volatility by improving the predictability of energy costs through contracted, financed solar assets
- Supports grid-interconnected solar installations that can reduce customers’ dependence on conventional grid electricity, particularly during daytime demand peaks
- Helps accelerate distributed clean-energy rollout across multiple European countries through a repeatable financing structure, rather than market-by-market project financing
- Contributes to emissions reduction by enabling thousands of tonnes of avoided CO2 over the lifetime of the financed solar systems (dependent on each site’s performance and offset factors)
- Uses a pan-European investment programme approach (beyond the EUR 20 million tranche), helping scale project pipelines and shorten the path from development to construction and operation
- Provides institutional financing through La Banque Postale and Bpifrance, improving capital availability for commercial distributed solar compared with relying solely on bespoke, one-off funding structures
- Increases overall investment momentum for European distributed solar, supporting ecosystem growth for developers, engineering, procurement, and construction partners involved in the projects
