Greek regulator awards licence for 200-MW solar project in Thessaly

  • Greece's energy regulator stated it has issued a power producer certification to project programmer Fos Anavras Monoprosopi MIKE for the building and construction of an up to 200-MW solar energy plant in the Thessaly administrative region.

The power producer licence for the project will certainly be valid for 25 years, running up until July 12, 2047, Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) claimed in a statement on Tuesday.

The solar (PV) park is intended to be built in Platani, in the municipalities of Almyros and Domokos, situated in the Magnesia and also Fthiotida regional units, respectively.

An application for the power generation certificate was submitted by Fos Anavras Monoprosopi last month. It is still uncertain whether the company will go solo to execute the project or look for to tie up with companions.

According to neighborhood media reports, Fos Anavras Monoprosopi MIKE was established last month with the purpose of producing electricity from solar plants.

By 2030, Greece intends to reach a 61% share of renewables in its power intake. Last year, the country reduced the licensing process for renewable resource projects and is intending to hold a series of auctions for brand-new ability in the 2022-2025 period.
