GESCOM Seeks Bids to Empanel Agencies for 10 MW Solar Project

Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company Limited (GESCOM) has welcomed Expression of Interest (EoI) for the empanelment of agencies for a 10 MW roof solar project in Karnataka.

The range of the project includes the design, supply, installment & appointing of solar RTPV grid-connected nuclear power plant aggregating 10 MW on the roofs of residential buildings & team real estate societies (GHS)/ domestic welfare organizations (RWA) situated in metropolitan as well as rural areas in the jurisdiction of GESCOM.

GESCOM covers 7 areas-- Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari & Vijayanagara-- under Net Metering plan, including a Yearly Upkeep Contract for a period of 5 years under "SOURA GRUHA YOJANE (SGY)" for FY 2021-22.

In March this year, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) launched the "Karnataka Renewable Energy Policy 2021-26" draft to reinforce the renewable energy markets in the state.

As Karnataka is just one of the leading states in the RE sector in the country and has a generation ability of regarding 15,037 MW, the KREDL has prepared the policy with an aim to promote 20 GW of eco-friendly projects in the state.

The policy has been composed with its primary goals:

  • To promote the development of 20 GW of RE projects with or without energy storage space systems in the state, including 2 GW of roof solar PV projects. The policy aims to attain the RPO (eco-friendly purchase responsibilities targets as specified by Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC).
  • The policy caters to the development of Renewable Energy Parks including crossbreed parks in the state, the development of wind-solar hybrid projects, and the development of floating solar including hybridization of drifting solar with existing hydro terminals.
