Eni unit takes bulk stake in 1.5-GW renewables portfolio in Italy, Spain

  • A unit of Italian oil as well as gas firm Eni SpA (BIT: ENI) is getting a 65% stake in Hergo Renewables S.P.A., a business that has a 1.5-GW portfolio of solar as well as wind projects in Spain and also Italy.

Plenitude, a wholly possessed subsidiary of Eni, is purchasing the rate of interest from compatriot Infrastrutture SpA which will keep the staying 35% of the portfolio, Eni stated on Thursday.

The very first project to be executed from the wind and solar bundle is a 37-MW photovoltaic (PV) plant that will be situated in the Italian town of Montalto di Castro. Works on it are expected to start in the coming weeks with commissioning prepared for the second half of 2023.

"The development of the wind and photovoltaic markets is key to our development strategy, which aims to get to greater than 2 GW of mounted capacity from renewable resources by the end of 2022, scaling up to over 6 GW by 2025 and also over 15 GW by 2030," said Plenitude's president Stefano Goberti.

Along with helping with the decarbonisation of the Italian as well as Spanish electrical power fields, this agreement contributes to Eni's shift procedure and Plenitude's goal of accomplishing carbon neutrality by 2040, the oil and gas firm kept in mind.
