Enerpower has opened what it claims to be the solitary largest solar farm in the Republic of Ireland.

Created in a joint venture with pharmaceutical business Eli Lilly, the 16-acre facility will help power a substantial percentage of the Lilly plant at its Dunderrow website (near Kinsale) with sustainable energy.

The ground-mounted solar farm will certainly produce up to 5.6 MW of power permitting Lilly to decrease its annual use of electrical energy from carbon resources by virtually 6GWH and its carbon footprint by 2,350 tonnes.

Consisted of 12,600 individual photovoltaic panels and also setting you back EUR5m the advancement was a joint investment between Lilly as well as Enerpower, with Enerpower getting support from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.

The development consists of photovoltaic panels on a mix of ground placed and ballasted structure together with all secondary cabling and electric facilities.

The site with over 40km of cabling will certainly have a yearly generation of 5.94 GWhr and also is wholly developed, built, operated as well as preserved by Enerpower.

Enerpower president Owen Power claimed: "This solar advancement is the Republic of Ireland's biggest ever before setup of solar panels.

" Over its lifetime, it will certainly give adequate energy to power the equivalent of all the houses of Kinsale for the following 20 years

" On-site Solar PV renewable generation is one of one of the most sustainable means to decrease fossil fuel produced electricity.

" Enerpower is delighted to be included with this project-- the trip to a zero-carbon world will call for several activities, as well as projects similar to this are an amazing step forward in the energy shift.

" We would especially such as to say thanks to the SEAI BEC program for their support and Lilly for their forward-thinking renewable power passions."

Lilly chairman and chief executive David A Ricks included: "Lilly is delighted to partner with Enerpower on this modern solar center as well as acknowledge the support of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to help bring this project to fulfillment.
