ContourGlobal Taps CATL for 3 GWh Storage Deal

• ContourGlobal orders 3GWh of CATL battery storage—526 liquid-cooled containers—powering Scotland, Greece and Chile projects, aligning delivery timelines with its pipeline.

ContourGlobal has placed an order for 3 GWh of battery storage equipment from CATL for multi-country projects. The deal covers 526 battery containers, each rated at 5.64 MWh, configured for four hours of continuous discharge. CATL will supply lithium iron phosphate cells integrated with its liquid-cooled system technology.

The batteries will be used at three sites: the 500-MW/2,000-MWh Wallace standalone project in Scotland (in advanced development), the 100-MW/400-MWh Taxiarches project in Greece (under construction), and the 90-MW/360-MWh battery portion of the Los Maitenes hybrid solar-plus-storage project in Chile (under construction). ContourGlobal said the CATL agreement is its first bundled supply deal with the Chinese manufacturer and will help align delivery timing with its pipeline.

• Scotland (Wallace, 500 MW / 2,000 MWh): The 3 GWh CATL supply provides a large share of the grid-scale battery capacity needed for a long-duration standalone system, helping ContourGlobal move from “advanced development” toward procurement milestones and scheduled delivery, and supporting development of a four-hour discharge capability aligned with typical balancing and capacity market needs.
• Greece (Taxiarches, 100 MW / 400 MWh): Securing battery containers through one manufacturer contract supports faster engineering and construction readiness for a project already under construction, reducing the risk of redesign or re-specification if equipment lead times change and giving ContourGlobal a clearer path to commissioning its storage component alongside the rest of the site build.
• Chile (Los Maitenes hybrid, 90 MW / 360 MWh battery portion): For the Chile project’s solar-plus-storage integration, the CATL batch helps ensure the storage block can be delivered as a coordinated system—supporting planned inverter/battery interface design work and enabling the project to deliver stored energy to complement solar generation when output would otherwise drop.
• Multi-country schedule alignment: A single, bundled equipment order is designed to coordinate deliveries across Scotland, Greece, and Chile, helping ContourGlobal manage global supply-chain variability while keeping each site’s installation windows and commissioning targets on track.
