Albania's Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has announced the victor of the tender for the building and construction of a 140 MW solar power plant in the Karavasta area, in the centre of the country.

According to the European Bank for Growth and Repair, which aided the Albanian government in preparing and holding the tender, French solar company Voltalia safeguarded the task thanks to a quote of EUR0.02489/ kWh. "This rate-- less than half the ceiling of EUR55-- validated the value of preparing a tender in accordance with worldwide ideal method," the international lender claimed.

The solar park will certainly be built on 122ha in the Divjaka town, in Remas, and on a further 76ha in the Fier district of Libofsha. The government said building and construction will certainly not affect the secured Karavasta Shallows.

Under the terms of the tender, half the energy produced by the plant will make the granted toll with the remainder sold on the wholesale energy market.

The procurement exercise is the 2nd tender for big scale solar in Albania. A previous public auction, for a 100 MW solar park, was won by India Power in November 2018. Fifty percent of that job was awarded a 15-year toll of EUR0.0599/ kWh with the equilibrium sold on the retail power market.

Albania supports rooftop PV with a net metering system codified in June.
